James Ward-Prowse has been selected for Goal of the Tournament and third-best player awards after England’s recent Under-20 Toulon Tournament campaign.

The Young Lions finished fourth overall in the tournament after falling to a 1-0 loss to Portugal in a third-place play-off on Sunday.

Despite being beaten to final qualification by eventual cup winners Brazil in Group B, Ward-Prowse’s influential displays in the heart of his nation’s midfield has seen him rewarded with a gong including him in the finest trio of performers in Southern France.

As part of England’s battle to second place in their five-team group, a 2-1 defeat to the Brazilians was brightened by a stunning free-kick courtesy of Ward-Prowse, whose curler from the edge of the box soared into the top corner.

Gareth Southgate’s side finished on five points from four group matches after successive draws rounded off their fixtures in a stage that began with a resounding 3-0 win over bottom-placed Qatar.
