Located in Southampton and founded by Mr Mo Abu Hilal, the Charity’s mission is to reduce the human and financial costs of these cancers by, increasing early detection rates, developing laparoscopic procedures and funding mini invasive surgery.
Pictured (above) is our Club Captain Kelvin Davis with Mr Hilal and the Saints goalkeeper has been instrumental in choosing the Southampton based charity, which has a global impact as the leading authority within the medical world.
Kelvin commented: “When I met with Mr Hilal I was massively impressed with his commitment and I felt as though I needed to do something to help support his research work, which is why I'm committed to supporting the charity partnership. Our City is a world leader in this medical field and I hope we can raise awareness and funds for such a worthwhile cause.”
Liver and Pancreatic Cancers remain two of the worst cancers in terms of prognosis and survival rates, but there is still a scarcity of funds dedicated to research to improve early detection, surgical treatment and adjuvant chemotherapy to improve results and survival.
Mr Hilal is delighted to be working with Southampton Football Club, commenting: “Cancer incidence is increasing and fighting cancer and promoting health and well-being should be our mission for a better future of our kids. It is a great pleasure to see this partnership with the Saints Foundation and Southampton Football Club developing for a noble cause.
“On the behalf of pancreatic and liver cancer patients and their families, I would like to thank every body who supports our charity to fight this disease.”
Over £4,000 was raised from the recent Player Awards dinner to give the partnership a great start, and the Saints Foundation looks forward to developing opportunities in the near future to support the fundraising objectives. A selection of home shirts worn by the Saints players for the Barclays Premier League match against Everton on 26th April 2014, are now available on the Foundation’s auction site with all proceeds going to the Liver & Pancreas R&D Development Charity - click here
