Morgan Schneiderlin is on his way home from the 2014 FIFA World Cup finals after France were beaten 1-0 by Germany in last night’s quarter-finals.

The Saints midfielder was an unused substitute as Mats Hummels’ early header settled matters at the Estádio Maracanã in Rio de Janeiro.

Schneiderlin made just the one appearance at the tournament, playing the entirety of Les Bleus’ goalless draw with Ecuador during the group stage.

He now joins Maya Yoshida, Gastón Ramírez and Dejan Lovren in being given an extended summer break following the tournament.
