Mauricio Pochettino has called for a show of appreciation to the players for their efforts in the final game of the season against Manchester United on Sunday.

This weekend’s game brings the curtain down on a successful campaign for Saints on the pitch, and Pochettino hopes that will be acknowledged by supporters throughout the day to highlight the feeling of pride which is in place around St Mary’s.

“I’m very happy and I’m very proud of these players for what they’ve done this season because they’ve pretty much given 100 per cent throughout the entire season,” he told Saints Player.

“It has been a very tough season but regardless of that I want to congratulate them all and the staff as well as the supporters, because they too have been brilliant.

“This is a good chance now in the game against Manchester United on Sunday to recognise that that the fans have been with us and giving us amazing support throughout the season, so this is a chance to congratulate them again.”

United travel down with one of the best away records in the division to their name, having taken ten wins and three draws from their 18 league matches on the road this season, but Pochettino is focused on ensuring his side finishes the campaign in style.

“I haven’t really analysed how they’ve done throughout the season, but we know that they are an amazing team with some quality players,” the gaffer said of this weekend's opponents. “They were the champions last season and we’re going to be facing a very tough Manchester United side.

“We will try to win as we always try to do in any game, but they will try to do the same. We want to win because we are in front of our fans and we are going to be playing against an amazing team and we want to finish the season on a very high note.”

Amid speculation surrounding his and others’ futures with the club, Pochettino stated that his and the players’ attention will all be on this game, with everything else going on outside pure conjecture at this stage.

“I don’t think it would be wise for us to get ahead of ourselves right now,” he said. “I think we just need to focus on the amazing season that we’ve had and to be focusing on Sunday at 5pm where the focus needs to be with the supporters. They need to be with the team, supporting the team and to congratulate the players for the season that they’ve had.

“There really is nothing to decide,” he added. “I still have one more year on my contract and I really haven’t spoken about it, I don’t really get it because it hasn’t come from me, it’s come from outside that these rumours are propagated.

“We’re not really distracted by it. We’ve achieved the best season in the Premier League in the history of this football club so I think that translates as not being distracted at all by these rumours.”
