Charlie Austin says he’s ready to go if called upon against Manchester United this weekend.

Austin – a January arrival from Queens Park Rangers – has not played first-team football since mid-December, when his former club played out a 2-2 draw with Brighton & Hove Albion.

But a solid ten days on the training pitch before his move to Saints, followed by a week getting to know his new teammates at Staplewood, means he’s ready if Ronald Koeman calls on him at Old Trafford.

“I met all the lads after the West Brom game and a few of the others this week, so I’ve settled in perfectly,” Austin told reporters ahead of the game.

“I’ve trained for ten days at QPR and this week, so I’m feeling ready to go. I’ll wait my time, train hard and who knows what will happen.

“It’s an incredible place to work and there’s a great group of lads, and obviously a fantastic manager too.

“It feels like home. My family is close and so that side of things is sorted. Now it’s just about settling into the club.”

While he’s not set himself any targets, Austin is confident he can hit the ground running in the Premier League again.

“I’ve not set myself any targets. I just want to get on the pitch and perform to the level I know I can,” Austin added.

“It’s not a concern that it will take me time to adapt back to the Premier League.

“I think my record speaks for itself and I’ve scored goals wherever I’ve been. If I work hard, I’m sure I’ll get the opportunities.”
