Saints manager Ronald Koeman is delighted with the variety of striking options he has at his disposal after the arrival of Charlie Austin.

Austin’s move from QPR last weekend adds to a group of forwards that already includes Graziano Pellè and Shane Long, as well as the sidelined Jay Rodriguez.

As he prepares his team for tomorrow’s trip to Manchester United, Koeman is encouraged not only by the strength in numbers up front, but also the variety of styles he can choose from.

"Thats good, to have different options,” he told youtube.com/southamptonfc. “I think that is what every manager wants in his team, in his squad, that you have different options to play and that makes the team stronger.”

On the subject of options, Koeman has deployed a 3-5-2 system to excellent effect in the club’s last two matches – comprehensive home wins over Watford and West Brom – and he explained he could continue with that approach at Old Trafford.

"That's possible, but I mention already that we have players that can play out of different systems,” he said.

“The most important is what is the best and in which system you have the best possibility to beat United, because we have players who can play out of a normal system and also can play out of the system in the last two games [in which] they showed very good defensive organisation.

“Watford and West Brom did not really have shots on target and it was defensively great team performances.”
