Saints’ winning run might have come to an end at the Emirates Stadium on Tuesday night, but defender Cédric was delighted with a point away to Arsenal.

Ronald Koeman’s side extended their unbeaten Barclays Premier League run to four matches with a hard-fought 0-0 draw against the Gunners, and Cédric was pleased with the outcome after such an intense encounter.

"I am very happy,” he said. “Of course, I would be more happy if we win, but playing in that stadium is always tough and in the end it is a good result.

"The first half was unbelievable, the intensity. It felt like I played 90 minutes by half time, so it was a nice game, a fantastic game in the Premier League, and it's a good result.

"I think in the second half we still had some chances, but we were playing too much direct. We lost a lot of balls and we didn't have ball possession, but we were strong defensively and compact.”

Understandably, Cédric also had words of praise for keeper Fraser Forster after his superb display.

“It was a very good game from Fraser,” he said. “He helped us a lot, but also we were strong defensively and we were compact.

“We know that was a difficult game, we were aware of that, because they have fantastic players, but Fraser did fantastic and all the team did.

“It's one more clean sheet and in the end it's very good for us. Our team is very strong and I think we can have a word in the league.”
