Afganistan is Japan’s penultimate match in the current stage, before they host second-placed Syria next Tuesday.
Elsewhere, Steven Davis and Lloyd Isgrove could come face-to-face, as Northern Ireland travel to Wales for a friendly match (7.45pm GMT).
Both sides have qualified for UEFA EURO 2016 and will be looking to get their preparations off to a strong start at Cardiff City Stadium.
