A Premier League Partnership

12:11 15th November 2012

Two of Saints Foundation’s staff jetted out to Egypt recently to support the Premier Skills programme.

The Premier League’s lead international project helps the development of community coaches and referees all over the world, along with the production of learning materials to enhance people’s English language skills.
Run in collaboration with the British Council, Premier Skills sees 22 separate week-long courses being delivered to 1,000 people in 15 countries across Africa and Asia, with a tailor-made emphasis on leadership skills designed to benefit the participants’ communities. The Saints Foundation’s Football Development Manager Andy Martino and Foundation coach Sam White were based in Luxor, delivering a coach education programme to local football coaches and PE teachers from Aswan, Luxor, Qena, Minia and Luxor.

Andy commented, “It’s great that Southampton Football Club has been invited to support the Premier Skills Programme and it’s testimony to the high quality community coaching programmes we run in the Southampton region.  For both myself and Sam it was a fantastic opportunity to develop our coaching skills in a new environment and we look forward to the Saints Foundation being involved in international development programmes in the future.”

A staggering 300,000 young people have been involved in activities delivered by the newly-trained Premier Skills coaches and Phase 2 of the project, which has provided a deeper level of training to the most promising coaches, since its launch in April 2010.
