Japanese international ‘Chung’ has found First Team opportunities limited this season and is yet to make a Barclays Premier League appearance, although he has featured amongst the substitutes on occasion.
Lee was unfortunate to be sidelined through injury over pre-season, but made his return to action in the Capital One Cup tie at Stevenage where he scored in a 4-1 win for Saints.
Another knock set him back again, but after regaining fitness through regular appearances in Martin Hunter’s Under-21 team, he came back to play in the FA Cup third round defeat to Chelsea at St Mary’s, where the forward replaced Jason Puncheon for the last 12 minutes of action.
Without a competitive run out since, Lee re-joins FC Tokyo - his first club, subject to international clearance, ahead of their forthcoming JLeague 1 campaign, which begins next month.
Chung is scheduled to return to Southampton ahead of pre-season in the summer.
