Southampton’s new signing Dani Osvaldo is relishing his move to St Mary’s, and the Italy international is keen to make an immediate impression at his new club.

Osvaldo was officially presented to the media for the first time on Monday afternoon, and the 27-year-old Argentina-born striker is already looking to pulling on a Saints shirt.

“My first impressions are that I’m very pleased to be here,” he told Saints Player. “The stadium is fantastic and I can’t wait to start training with my new teammates.”

Dani played under Saints manager Mauricio Pochettino at RCD Espanyol, where he scored 20 goals in 44 appearances, and the frontman is looking forward to a reunion with his previous gaffer.

“A big factor for me was knowing Mauricio from beforehand as I knew him for a season and a half,” he explained.

“I know how he works and I’m very pleased with that. I’ve known him for some time already, so that was the main factor for me as well as coming to an amazing league like the Premier League, and this club in general too.

“England was always a potential destination after playing in both Spain and Italy so I hope I can perform well while I’m here and fulfil all of the goals that I’ve set out for myself in this season.

“It’s a very important year because it is a World Cup year, so basically I want to establish myself and hopefully by doing as well as I can for the club,” Osvaldo added.

“It’s a very important year for me and I want to score a lot of goals in order to get into the Italian national side for the World Cup. I want to do well for the club in a personal sense but also a collective one by helping the club out as much as I can.”

Osvaldo finished by revealing that he’ll let the fans judge for themselves what strengths he’ll bring to the team, but hopes that the opportunity to show what he can do comes along quickly.

“I don’t really like to speak about myself, but god-willing, if I get the chance then pretty soon you’ll be able to see what I am capable of doing on the pitch.”
