Sunday 27th October 2013, may seem along way off, but the BUPA Great South Run 2013 will welcome an anticipated 30 000 runners taking part in the weekends events in Southsea, and the Saints Foundation is looking for fans to join the ‘Saints GSR Squad 2013’ as well as youngsters to represent Saints in the Mini and Junior events!
Each Adult participant is asked to raise £300 contributing directly to the Foundation’s fundraising targets for the 2013/14 season to support disadvantaged young people and vulnerable adults in our local community.
65 runners completed the course in 2011 and 2012 on behalf of the Saints Foundation and was a fantastic experience for all involved. Iwan Thomas; TV Presenter, former Olympic athlete and Saints Foundation Ambassador is a huge supporter of the Great South Run and competed it on many occasions in the past.
He says: “I would encourage fans to take on the challenge, it’s a fantastic spectacle and a personal challenge for everyone taking part, whether you’re a serious athlete or it’s your first event. Running for the Saints Foundation and raising funds will also make an impact on the work of the Charity locally.”
The 2013 Great South Run will also see the Foundation enter the Junior and Mini Great South Run events on Saturday 26th October for children aged 8-15 years and 3-8 years respectively. The young age group will also have the opportunity to run alongside our very own Sammy Saint, who is taking part for the first time! Iwan added, “it’s great to get children interested in sport at an early age and hopefully adopt a sporting and exercise habit for life.”
Sammy Saint is already being put through his paces by Iwan Thomas
Iwan will be taking part in the BUPA Great South Run and encouraging participants to raise funds for good causes by getting a 'Vodafone JustTextGiving page' and a 'JustTextGiving code'. “It’s a fantastic weekend of sport and I look forward to meeting all the participants who sign up for the Saints Foundation to offer a few training tips!”
