Luke Lands Apprentice Award

10:24 7th January 2013

Luke Shaw has earned the LFE Apprentice of the Month award for the month of November.

17 year-old Luke made terrific progress on the pitch in November, breaking into the first team who went unbeaten in four games following his arrival in the side, and the Saints Academy prospect has gone on to become a regular starter under Nigel Adkins.

It is easy to forget though, that Shaw is still working towards completing the education side of his apprenticeship. He is making great strides towards achieving his Subsidiary Diploma and NVQ despite training and playing commitments with the first team.

He attends extra sessions when training does not allow him to attend the full BTEC lessons and has managed his time well while being with the first team squad since pre-season, which more than qualifies him for this award.

Shaw has trained with the first team since the beginning of the campaign and more recently, played in every game over the busy Christmas period. It is a testament to Luke that he is able to continue his education commitments alongside his rapid rise through the ranks.

Saints’ Academy Manager Matthew Crocker commented:

"Luke has made massive strides both on and off the field this season. He has worked extremely hard to get his opportunity in the first team and to be playing regularly in the Premier League as a 17 year old is credit to his endeavour and application."
