Maya One Game From Brazil

Maya Yoshida and his Japan teammates will seal qualification for the 2014 FIFA World Cup if they avoid defeat to Jordan in today's AFC Fourth Round Group B qualifier.

The Samurai Blue need just a point from this afternoon's game at the King Abdullah Stadium in Amman to become the first non-hosting side to qualify for next summer's tournament in Brazil.

Yoshida picked up his 24th Japan cap in their friendly win over Canada last Thursday, and captained his country in last summer's London 2012 Olympic Games Football Tournament.

The defender is one of a number of Saints players who have been in international action over the past week, with the likes of Nathaniel Clyne, Artur Boruc, Vegard Forren and Gastón Ramírez all appearing for their respective countries over the weekend.

As well as playing for England's Under-21s in their win over Romania last Thursday, Clyne appeared for them again as a second-half substitute in their 4-0 victory over Austria last night.

Boruc played for Poland in their 3-1 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifying defeat to Ukraine in Warsaw last Friday night, while Forren was involved for the full 90 minutes of Norway's 1-0 loss to Albania the same evening.

Ramírez came on as a 67th-minute substitute in Uruguay's 1-1 draw with Paraguay on Friday, while Steven Davis was due to play for Northern Ireland against Russia but the game was postponed due to snowfall in Belfast.

Clyne and Forren are now back in Southampton, while – like Yoshida – Boruc, Ramírez and Davis are in action later today.

Boruc and his Poland teammates take on San Marino in Warsaw this evening, while Ramírez has been named in the Uruguay side for their qualifier against Chile.

Davis will captain Northern Ireland as they host Israel tonight, with the pitch at Windsor Park now playable again.
