Morgan Schneiderlin was honoured to receive his haul of two trophies at the Official Player Awards dinner on Tuesday evening.

Morgan won both the Fans’ Player of the season and the Players’ Player award to cap a fine year for the midfielder at the end of his fifth campaign with the club.

“I’m very happy to win both awards,” said the Frenchman. “I want to say thank you to everyone: the players, coaching staff and the Chairman as well as the fans, because they always support me whether I have a good season or a bad one.

“I’m so happy and I want to congratulate all of the players because there are many people who deserve a trophy like my ones.

“For example, Punch (Jason Puncheon) scored many goals and has come back into the Southampton team very strongly. He’s been so good this year. Jack Cork has played next to me for most of the season and he has done very well since coming back from injury - we looked a better team.

“We also have Rickie Lambert who, even in the Premier League has scored 14 goals. There are many players who arguably deserve this, so it’s a privilege to win this award, and my thanks go to everyone.”

Morgan reserved special praise for the supporters, expressing his gratitude to the way in which they have helped him throughout his time in England so far.

“They’ve always been supportive,” he highlighted. “They were there in League One when we went down and were so supportive.

“It’s always a pleasure to play in front of them and I knew when I came here I was not the best player because it was hard for me to come here when I was 18 but thanks to them for supporting me and understanding what I was going through.”

Schneiderlin also heaped acclaim on the mentality developed within the squad, and believes there is plenty more to come from the current crop of Southampton players.

“It’s a pleasure for me to work with them and see them every day because they are amazing players and amazing people as well, so it’s just a real pleasure to come into training each day,” he said.

“I’m sure we will continue to do great things together and keep the squad as a group because we’re very strong.

“I hope from today we’re now going to achieve even better things in the future and I’m sure that both myself and this club will progress further.”
