Pochettino: We Must Move On Quickly

Mauricio Pochettino says his Southampton team must quickly turn their attentions to their next game following today's disappointing loss to bottom club QPR.

Goals from Loic Remy and Jay Bothroyd either side of Gastón Ramírez's leveller consigned Saints to their first home defeat in the Barclays Premier League since December.

And First Team Manager Pochettino insists Saints should now rapidly begin preparing for next Saturday's trip to Norwich, who are just five points ahead of his team in the table.

"We can't look back on this result – we just have to prepare for Norwich," he said in the aftermath of today's result.

"I have trust and confidence in my team. From now on, we just need to keep on working and going forward.

"We didn't expect this result," Pochettino conceded, "but we have to accept it because we made some mistakes.

"We tried very hard and put in a great effort to get a different kind of result but, because of the mistakes we made and their goalkeepers' interventions, we didn't get a positive one.

"It was a similar performance to Newcastle. When we analyse the game, we have seen that QPR have only got close to our goal three times and they have scored twice.

"That means that, on those two times, we haven't defended properly and as we should have."

Saints' chances of a result suffered a blow before the break when skipper Adam Lallana had to be substituted with his side a goal down after taking a hefty whack to his neck.

But, while the gaffer admitted he was disappointing to lose the midfielder's services, he says his side had an opportunity to push on for a result given they equalised soon afterwards.

"Lallana is a very important player for us, and to lose him at that stage of the game was very unfortunate for us," Pochettino said.

"Nonetheless, we did equalise at the end of the first half and we started the second half well – we were controlling the tempo of the game.

"We made another mistake and conceded a goal so we were not able to get the draw."
