The striker is one of three Saints in the current Three Lions squad, but could not join Jay Rodriguez and Adam Lallana on the field at Wembley having picked up a knock in training earlier in the week.
Having watched his two teammates make their international debuts from the sidelines, Lambert is now working to get himself involved in this week’s game against Germany.
“I’ve got a little strain in one of my muscles – my glute, actually,” he explained after Friday’s match.
“It’s not one of the common muscles, but they heal faster than hamstrings and calves, which is good. Hopefully I’ll be okay.
“It would be a great game to be involved with, so hopefully they pass me fit.”
Having seen Rodriguez and Lallana join him in picking up their first England caps this year, Lambert could not hide his delight for his two pals – despite Friday’s disappointing result.
“I was made up for them – so proud,” he beamed. “I thought they did well in a very, very hard game.
“We knew [Chile] would play technically well, but they play a very different formation to what we’re used to. They are very good at what they do.”
