Saints pair join up with U21s

Luke Shaw and James Ward-Prowse have linked up with the England Under-21s squad ahead of their 2015 UEFA European Under-21 Championship qualifiers against Finland and San Marino.

The Saints pair headed up to St George’s Park on Sunday evening and trained with the Young Lions yesterday morning.

The squad has now relocated to Milton Keynes to prepare for Thursday’s game against Finland at Stadium mk.

Speaking to the media yesterday, Under-21 head coach Gareth Southgate praised Southampton’s philosophy and highlighted the Club’s record of producing not only talented footballers but well-rounded individuals.

“You can see why they are where they are as a club,” said Southgate.

“They’ve tried to develop people as well as players, and the boys in our squads have certainly been a credit to them as a football club off the field – and they can play. 

“It’s very impressive what they’re doing. The only mistake they made was that they released me when I was 14, but I’m not bitter about that at all!”
