The inaugural Saints Foundation Star Awards took place at the Great Hall in Winchester last week.

Guests enjoyed the historic surrounds of the 13th Century venue whilst celebrating the personal journeys of a number of the Charity’s participants, whilst they were also treated to a performance by Opera Singer Sean Ruane from (CHANT Creative) who performed with young people from the Foundation’s Youth Projects showcasing the talent of Southampton’s younger generation.

Three Star Awards were presented to Foundation participants who have demonstrated commitment, personal development and determination to overcome life challenges and improve their circumstances. The three winners pictured are; Andrew Powell (Kickz / Saints Connect Award), Colin Hughes (Saints4Sport Award) and Michael Pearce (Saints-Ability Award).

In the past 12 months both Andrew and Colin have made positive decisions to move forward in their lives and as their journeys continue they look forward to a brighter future.  Michael has been attending the Saints-Ability programme for ten years, overcoming the challenges of Cerebral Palsy to lead an active life as well as being an inspiration to the players within the programme with his commitment to the game.

Southampton Football Club’s support of the Charity was clearly evident on the night, with Executive Chairman Nicola Cortese in attendance along with the Board of Directors, First Team Manager; Nigel Adkins and Saints players; Steven Davis, Jay Rodriguez and Emmanuel Mayuka who presented the Awards.

Mark Abrahams (Head of Saints Foundation) commented, “The Star Awards created an opportunity to showcase the young people and adults from the Charity’s projects who have demonstrated incredible talent and commitment to succeed in life, and in many cases made a conscious decision to turn their lives around. Their performances and account of their personal journeys had a lasting effect on the evening’s guests, and we very much hope the event demonstrated the impact Southampton Football Club makes within its community often working outside the traditional boundaries of the sport.”

A silent auction of football and sports memorabilia along with a weekend golfing break in Spain and a corporate sailing experience courtesy of the La Cala Resort and Leopard 3 respectively, raised funds on the night for the Saints-Ability disability programme.

The Saints Foundation would like to congratulate all three winners and the performers on the night, as well as extending its gratitude to the event partners; Southampton Football Club, Barclays Premier League, Carling, ETC and Squeeze 18.
