The Under-18's were knocked out of the F.A Youth Cup after a 3-1 defeat to QPR at Loftus Road on Tuesday.
The youngsters endured a disappointing evening's work in West London as the Hoops put their chances in the competition to the sword.
A dominant opening spell from the hosts was capitalised on with a long range shot which found the top corner of Jack Dovey's goal to give the R's a lead ten minutes before the break.
Dave Puckett's side struggled to get going again but handed themselves a lifeline on the hour mark with a fine left foot finish from midfielder Callum McNish which flew into the net to square things up.
Frustratingly for the visitors though thereafter, chances were few and far between and Rangers struck a second and a third goal late on, one placed and the other poached from close range, to progress into the fourth round at Saints' expense.
Youth Team Coach Puckett felt that his side did not play to their strengths which led to them being well below par on the night.
"We didn't get close enough to them in and out of possession and we played the ball too high, too long, too often rather than to our strengths," he said despondently afterwards.
"Aside from Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain who was our most effective player we were inconsistent, whilst QPR were workman like, pressed us hard and deserved to win.
"I will be monitoring the reactions because we've met our standards before but we need to start seeing it every day," he concluded.
