As a member of Active Southampton, Saints in the Community is pro active in sourcing opportunities to promote awareness of health issues affecting its community and to date has three long term projects focused on this agenda.

Health Programme Partners

Health Kicks

Working in partnership with Social Health Ltd and Thornhill Plus You, Health Kicks is a ground breaking community project using the power of football to attract the attention of adult men in the Thornhill district and deliver a football and health education programme.

The project has been set up to combat the growing concerns from health professionals that adult men aged 18-35 years have a lifestyle that could be detrimental to their health in later life. Health Kicks is the first of its kind in the Country and the Trust has ambitions to develop the project into further districts in the future.

Saints Tots

The level of obesity amongst children is a topical issue which is causing concern amongst Government departments. Low levels of physical activity and increased sedentary behaviour in young children is contributing to an energy imbalance and consequently an increase in the risk of obesity.

Saints Tots has been developed specifically for pre school children. It is a physical development programme that uses a variety of fun games to engage children in physical activity. The activity material is professionally designed to develop motor skills, promote physical fitness and create self confidence in young children

Funded through a partnership with the National Friendly Deposit Society and Sportsmatch, the project is delivered at Children Centres in and around the Southampton region. Funded for a 12 month period, the intentions are to create a sustainable three year commitment following the successes to date.

C.H.I.L.L.

Coaching - Health - Involvement - Lifestyle - Learning is a health education programme based in the Outer Shirley district of the City. The project aims to educate young people with positive lifestyle advice using the power of football to connect with participants.

The Trust works with agencies such as the Primary Care Trust to promote the city's agenda such as The National No Smoking Campaign. The Trust's annual schools healthy eating competition has proved successful with over 2000 young people taking part each year.

The project comes to an end in September 2009 and the Trust is investigating legacy projects beyond this period.
