Liam Feeney's dramatic late winner for The Lions ended Saints' FA Cup dreams.

Wintry conditions on a chilly evening inside St. Mary's the contest were the backdrop to a game which was a slow burner in truth, but having initially reversed a one goal deficit with goals from Adam Lallana and Rickie Lambert, the hosts looked like they had found the spark to reignite their cup run.

However, two late strikes by the visitors including an equaliser from former Saints loanee Dany N'Guessan turned the game back on its head and pushed Nigel Adkins' men out of the competition .

Adkins made seven changes to the starting line up from the side that drew 0-0 with Birmingham over the weekend.

In a battling opening, the hosts made the first venture forward as De Ridder took play by the scruff of the neck with a quick dart forward from the middle that ended with the winger shooting high and wide from the edge of the area.

Chances were few and far between early on, but it was The Lions who pounced to take an early advantage by taking the lead with 17 minutes on the watch.

A neat move through the middle, found its way to Harry Kane, and the on loan forward laid it off to Liam TROTTER who curled home a side-footed effort from the edge of the area leaving Bialkowski rooted to the spot.

Millwall could and perhaps should have doubled their lead on 21 when Kane played Ryan Mason through one on one with Bialkowski, but the winger lost his composure to fire into the side netting instead of working the 'keeper.

Saints' new look strike partnership of Guly and Tadanari Lee had few opportunities to link up in the final third, but their movement gave plenty of room for optimism with the latter in particular finding gaps with some clever movement off the ball.

A frustrating half an hour or so from the hosts was summed up with a patient build up that ended with a skyward shot from De Ridder as Millwall stopper David Forde remained untested.

Kenny Jackett's men continued to sniff out half chances, with Kane the next to get a shot in with a low effort which was comfortable for Bialkowski.

Former Saints loanee Dany N'Guessan almost stole in at the far post when he got on the end of a deep cross, but he smashed a close range effort into the side netting from an acute angle.

And then from nothing the hosts drew level. De Ridder played LALLANA into the area, and the midfielder got the ball out of his feet before drilling a low shot under Forde to bring Saints back into it.

The goal certainly awoke Adkins' side, as De Ridder and Richardson made some teasing runs forward, the former of which was played in just behind Tadanari Lee as he went to meet it at the far post.

Saints followed up with a terrific move five minutes before the break as De Ridder delivered an inviting cross to the far side of the area where Guly powered a firm header at goal which forced

Forde into a great reaction save, before Lallana followed up from two yards out but put his shot over.

Guly went into the book for a late foul on Mason by the edge of the area, and the last chance of the half saw James Henry's free-kick pushed over by Bialkowski as the teams went into the break with the tie still in the balance.

Half Time: Saints 1-1 Millwall

Saints adopted a diamond midfield with Guly dropping behind a front two of De Ridder and Lee with Chaplow moving out to the right, where he had played with such freedom prior to the knee injury he suffered in November.

The hosts almost profited from a touch of fortune when a pass from a blue shirt was accidentally intercepted by the referee, and from there, Lee burst through towards goal where he struck a shot inches wide of the left post.

Lee continued to menace his opponents, and won a free-kick on the left side of the penalty area when he was brought down by a combination of two challenges. Lallana stepped up with invention, striking a near post curling effort which came back off the crossbar, but harmlessly back into play.

At the other end, The Lions almost capitalised from Fonte's loose clearance which Henry shot low through a crowd of players, but Bialkowski was there to keep it out with a strong right arm on the ground.

The Polish stopper made an even better save moments later when Dunne's cross was swung at goal by Trotter who smashed a volley towards the far corner, but Bialkowski held firm.

On 54 Saints took off the already booked Guly and replaced him with Rickie Lambert, scorer of the Saints goal from the reverse fixture at The Den ten days previously.

Lambert's introduction meant a three pronged forward line alongside De Ridder and Lee, as the hosts continued to press with Lallana again inadvertently going close with a deflected cross which was held at the near post.

Chaplow made it to an hour of action on his return when he was replaced by Ben Reeves in a straight swap from midfield.

Lee's best chance arrived soon after with Lambert playing a slick pass across the area which De Ridder cushioned down for the Japanese national, who couldn't keep his shot down from 8 yards out.

For all Saints' possession they found it tough to break open a dogged and compact Millwall side. Lambert fired over from distance, before Harding forced a shot in which was blocked en route to goal, but it was Lallana's daisy cutter from 20 yards that required a smart save from Forde as the hosts were finally able to test the Lions glovesman.

The visitors came back into it, and a swift break forward saw Kane work Bialkowski again as he aimed for the far corner with a low strike, but the 'keeper was alert to turn it past the post.

Saints immediately hit back at the other end and on 77 minutes they turned the match on its head through one of their substitutes.

A swift move down the right came to LAMBERT's path and the striker kept his cool to bring the ball under control before shooting low past Forde to make it 2-1.
De Ridder was withdrawn before the game restarted as Lee Barnard took his place for the final ten minutes or so.

But as the clock ticked over the 80 minute mark, The Lions levelled the contest up when James Henry's cross from the right was headed home by N'GUESSAN to set up a grandstand finish.

Millwall's second scorer was forced off on 84 with a knock as ex Bournemouth man Liam Feeney replaced him shortly after Ben Reeves had a goal disallowed for offside.

A huge roar went up as three minutes of added time went up, but no sooner had Saints looked to win it, the visitors hit a bolt from the blue as the substitute FEENEY cut in from the left to curl home a sublime winner for themselves to take Millwall into round five.
