Here are just a selection of the messages that we have received from Saints fans, paying tribute to Michael Svensson following the announcement of his retirement...
Michael 'Saint' Svensson - Thank you for all your wonderful work for the Saints. You put the Club first whivh the fans appreciated and will never forget
We wish you good luck for the future. Hopefully, when the takeover is settled you can continue with your much needed coaching role
Pam Cox, Atherstone, Warwickshire
Michael Svensson is a great player who is hugely respected by all Saints fans and will be missed. I hope he doesn't leave the club altogether and has a testimonial very soon.
Sally Havercroft, Southampton
Thank you Michael - You have been a true professional and your commitment to the club should be an example to all.
As a player I think he was seriously underrated and if he had stayed fit I expect he would have got a big money move to a top club.
I also strongly believe that his absence was a major contributing factor to our relegation from the Premiership. Thanks Killer and good luck in whatever you do next.
Jon Sheeran, Bristol
Goodbye Michael? Maybe Not! - A very sad day for Southampton. Just when you think times are turning a corner with the new ownership nearing its conclusion another blow for the fans.
Good Luck to Michael for the future and thankyou for your service.
'There's only One Michael Svensson' (unfortunately)

My finiest memory of Killer was his towering header at Anfield to secure the win in a season when we completed the double against Liverpool.
Peter Hopgood, Leybourne, Kent
He is an example of what a true football player is...strong, aggressive, a team player, skilful, good passer and very tactical aware. He works hard in training and spends less time making excuses about things and no moaning.
Neil Mason, Southampton
Like most fans, I have memories of great tackles well timed, but Killer could score as well. A fond memory is of his goal at Anfield in a 2-1 win for Saints. Being surrounded by scousers at work, it gave me a particularly good drive home!
Campbell Russell, Chester
Hey Michael,
Few can match your grit & determination! You are a true Saint. Thanks for all your hard work & I wish you all the best for the future - hopefully as part of a new successful team at St Mary's.
Mark Miller, Basingstoke
Killer, You are a great bloke as well as a great player and captain. You'll always have a special place reserved in the hearts of Saints fans.
From Chris Beare and Lew
I'll never forget Killer scoring the last ever goal at Maine Road in 2003 and ending Saints' season with a Premiership win.
I'm sure I join all Saints fans in wishing you a great career as a coach, preferably with Southampton.
Liz Aylett
I met Michael at Gothenborg airport a few years ago when he had been out for a couple of years but just starting to think of playing again.
He was about to have a contract discussion with Mr Lowe. What a superb player and what a nice bloke!
He was so keen to do well for Southampton. There are a few of us in my family with season tickets and we were all excited at the prospect of him playing again for us. We wish him every success in his coaching career.
Steve Warren and family
I have met Michael many times, usually in David Lloyd and Sainsbury's and he is the nicest guy in the world. We love you Killer!
