Reading Skipper on trial
Saints have been preparing for a Royal visit this week as former Reading skipper Graeme Murty joins the squad on trial…
The 34-year old Scotland international is available on a free transfer after being released by the Berkshire club at the end of the season and Saints boss Mark Wotte has been quick to invite him along to Staplewood.
"Graeme is a very experienced defender and we will be taking a look at him over the next week or so," he said. "It is important that we do not lose any more time in our preparations for the new season and taking players on trial is an important part of that process."
Murty racked up over 300 appearances with the Royals as right-back during an eleven year spell at the club, captaining the side in their record breaking promotion season in 2005/06 and then during their two year stay in the top flight.
His appearances last season were hampered by a calf injury but also included an eight game loan spell with Charlton Athletic ahead of his testimonial on July 21st at the Madejski Stadium.
Meanwhile, ex-Saint Jo Tessem's request to train with his former Club next week has also been accepted and the 2003 FA Cup finalist will join the squad at Staplewood from Monday as he bids to maintain his own fitness ahead of a possible move back to Sweden.
