Lallana's seal of approval

Posted on: Sat 25 Jul 2009

Adam Lallana re-affirmed his desire to stay at Saints after putting in an energetic performance against Hearts.

The 21 year-old midfielder opened the scoring against the SPL side and was pleased to help Saints get a first win of pre-season under their belts.

"It was nice to get back out on the pitch and get a game to keep fit but it was good to get a goal as well," he said. "It was nice to get that feeling back to take into the new season.

"It's massive to get the win. The new manager's come in he's got his own ideas and his ideas of how he wants us to play. We played two banks of four and to get our first win of pre-season means that we'll take that into Queens Park Rangers next weekend and then hopefully into the following week against Millwall."

Lallana voiced his approval to the appointment of Alan Pardew and believes he will learn a lot from the new manager.

"He's a great coach on and off the field and as players we're doing what we need to do.

"He's brought his own ideas in, we move the ball quickly and hopefully when we start the season we'll kick on and pick up as many points as possible."

The England Under-21 player also felt that he benefitted from the performance of the man who assisted him for his goal.

"I know Stern is the type of player who will bring the ball down and bring other players into play so we work well together. I knew he was going to back heel it off to me for the goal, I looked up and just aimed for the corner.

"His (Stern's) ability speaks for itself. If we keep him hopefully he can hit 20+ goals and whoever's in the side like myself or Joseph Mills, then we can benefit from playing around him."

Lallana's hopes that his strike from today will provide a platform for the forthcoming season and beyond, after vowing to stay at the club.

"I want to build on my goals tally," he revealed. "I got three last season so if I could get into double figures then that would be brilliant.

"I'm 100% committed to Southampton, I've got two years left here and I'm definitely going to be here for at least the next year and hopefully a few more."
