Murty: 'A Lot To Think About'
Graeme Murty felt that Saints were given a lot to think about after a disappointing 3-1 defeat in Huddersfield.
The 34 year-old right back was frustrated with the way in which the hosts scored their goals to keep the three points in Yorkshire.
"I don't know what went wrong today," he said exasperatedly. "We turned up in good spirits and it just didn't come for us. That said, we didn't play well and we conceded two goals from set pieces which is disappointing for a defender.
"We've got a long journey back now to reflect on the performance and see what we can do in the week to impress the manager to be in his thoughts for Tuesday night's game at Swindon."
Shortly after Huddersfield took the lead, Saints got back on level terms and Murty admited that it worked to the home side's advantage rather than to their own.
"When you've got guys like they have in the side they're going to be a handful, but we scored a great goal. However, instead of galvanizing us it seemed to do it for them.
"We had more belief because we knew we needed to get into better areas and deliver quality, but the way Huddersfield played meant that we couldn't get into those areas very often so we need to capitalise on that when we do get the chance."
Saints' first defeat of the campaign was quickly dismissed by the former Reading man as being a return to last season's form.
"I don't believe that there is a losing habit in the team," he affirmed. "I think today it should be credit to Huddersfield because I thought that they put us under a lot of pressure, but we know that we've got to handle things a lot better.
"We know that we've got a very, very long journey ahead of us now to reflect on the game.
"Today I think we'll have played one of the stronger teams in League One and congratulations to them, but we're looking forward to getting them back to St. Mary's to get our revenge."
