New loan signing Neal Trotman has big ambitions for his time at St. Mary's and feels the deal is a win-win for both himself and the club.

"I'm very grateful to Southampton for bringing me here," Trotman said, "I just need to get games and Southampton is a great club for me to improve at as well."

"My agent has been speaking to the gaffer for a while now and when I found out such a great club were interested I just had to come. The players here and the emphasis on their development is a big draw for me."

Trotman has joined Alan Pardew's side on loan until the start of January 2010 and hopes to fulfill the promise that obviously caught the Saints boss' eye.

"I did really well at Oldham and played a few games for them and then Preston signed me in January 2008," he explained.

"I played a couple of games for them towards the end of the season and also did well, but then I was unfortunate with an injury, just when I was looking to kick on.

"The next season wasn't to be, but I then went Colchester on loan and did o.k. there and now I've come through pre-season without any problems so I'm raring to go."

Having successfully battled a persistent groin strain and a hernia, the 22-year old centre back is now hoping to prove himself at St. Mary's with his typical no nonsense style.

"You could say that I'm just an old fashioned defender - just head it and kick it!" he laughed. "You won't see me dribbling the ball or anything.

"I just try and keep it simple and my main priority is just to defend. That's my game and the manager knows what to expect.

"St. Mary's is a great stadium and they'll be quite a few fans there on Saturday, but I'll just take it as it comes if I get the nod.

"The main aim is get the ten points out of the way to start with and then just take it one game at a time."
