Saints skipper Kelvin Davis admitted that Stockport's injury time equaliser was a 'hard pill to swallow'...

Whilst a point away from home would be welcomed most weeks, the nature of the goal, which was practically the last kick of the game, left Saints feeling like they had lost two points rather than gained one.

"Our performance today was very professional and very solid," Davis explained. "We got to half time with our noses in front and for 46 minutes of the second half we were very much in command.

"When their goal came, and in the way that it did, it's a very hard pill to swallow. It makes it much harder to come away with a point and be happy with it."

Saints are still without a league win this season, but couldn't possibly have come closer this weekend, with just seconds left on the clock when Carl Baker struck.

"It's an issue today, because there were so few seconds left on the clock and at that stage you feel like it's in the bag," he continued.

"It's another lesson to learn, and we're disappointed, but we'll keep cracking on and will be looking to pick up three points at home next week.

"As the manager has said, we probably let the ball come into the box too much towards the end and you don't want to encourage that, because anything can happen.

"As far as Neal Trotman is concerned, he said he didn't have his hand up and he said he didn't try and block it.

"He's half turned his back and got his leg across and his argument is that his arm was just there. He couldn't chop it off!

"It's a difficult one, because I didn't have a clear view of it myself, but it didn't look like a clear-cut penalty.

"I thought we played very well at times. "We've worked hard all week, and we replicated what we did well against Birmingham again this weekend.

"We hit the bar twice and had solid chances and a goal disallowed. You just felt that it was all going our way, but it just wasn't to be.

"They also had one or two chances in the second half that we got away with, but as a squad and as a club we're still in transition.

"It's not easy, but our performance showed that we can certainly get points."

Davis' own abilities in penalty situatuations have already been frequently tested this season, but he was happy to give credit to Stockport's goalscorer.

He added: "I went the right way, but it was a decent penalty, to be fair, and he stuck it away well.

"As it went past me I thought it had hit the post. That's how close it must have been, but the lad took it well and he was probably under a lot of pressure so late in the game."
