Saints Support Bobby Moore Fund

Posted on: Fri 02 Oct 2009

Southampton Football Club is pleased to be supporting the Bobby Moore Fund for Cancer Research UK at Saturday's game against Gillingham.

Volunteers from Saints in the Community sponsors Skandia will be collecting outside St. Mary's to raise money for research for bowel cancer in the UK.

Bobby Moore played for England 108 times, captained the team in a record 90 matches, won the World Cup, the FA Cup, the European Cup Winners' Cup and was Footballer of the Year. Bobby remains one of the greatest sporting heroes and the famous image of Bobby holding the Jules Rimet trophy aloft at Wembley in 1966 is one that has become engrained in every football fans memory.

Sadly Bobby Moore died from bowel cancer 16 years ago, at the age of 51. After his tragic death, his widow, Stephanie Moore MBE, set up the Bobby Moore Fund.

We would like to thank everyone for their donations today, If you would like more information on the research funded by the Bobby Moore Fund, please contact bmf@cancer.org.uk.
