Saints once again boasted the highest crowd of the round in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy and fans are now eagerly awaiting the Area Semi Finals draw.
The 13,906 supporters inside St. Mary's on Wednesday evening and those watching on television saw the team progress amidst tricky conditions on the south coast with a 2-1 win over Charlton Athletic.
Alan Pardew's side are now in the last eight of the competition, which remains split between four teams from the north and four from the south, so Saints will face one of the following clubs when the draw for the Area Semi Finals is made this Saturday live on the Sky Sports TV show, Soccer am:
MK Dons
Hereford United
Norwich City
Whoever the opponents are, the tie will take place in the week commencing Monday 14th December 2009 in the days following the hosting of Tranmere Rovers in League One.
Should Saints progress in the Semi Finals they will then go into a two legged Area Final against the winner of the other Southern Semi Final. The winner over the course of the two legged affair will then meet a Northern side in the overall Final at Wembley Stadium.
