Lallana Sets New Target

Posted on: Wed 25 Nov 2009

Adam Lallana has admitted that he may have to reassess his seasonal targets after netting twice in the 3-1 victory over Hartlepool.

The Saints Academy graduate took his tally for the season to eleven goals already this campaign having originally set a target of double figures for the season.

"It's got to be fifteen now I think," he revealed afterwards. "I'll take it game by game, and if I hit fifteen I'll just go on from there. It's nice to be scoring goals, and it's good to be back winning games, especially on the road."

Both goals were well executed by the midfielder, who was happy to accept a slice of fortune for each strike.

"For the first goal I remember the ball came into me, I went to turn on it and it actually went underneath my feet. Luckily it fell to Lambert, he played me in and I just banged it with my left foot. I just took it early and slipped it in under the keeper, I think it may have gone in off him, but you've just got to get your shots in early and hope they go in.

"David Connolly scored one like the second on Saturday, and I actually scored one similar earlier in the season, in the cup I think. I just cut in and thought, 'I'm going to bend it in.' I think it may have been going a little bit wide, but the wind took it into the top corner!

"You have to take the luck, and the rub of the green when you can, because you're going to have nights where things don't go your way.

"You don't get anything without trying so it was nice, and it is always nice to get on the scoresheet, but the three points is obviously the most important thing."

A 3-1 success was testament to the performance, and Lallana was delighted to reward the supporters who had made the long journey north.

"We came back from one goal down and didn't have the best start, but we went into half time break with the scores at one all. We knew it was going to be tough second half with the wind, but fortunately we got the second goal early so we felt we just had to see it out by defending the corners and set plays well. It was good to get the third goal on the counter attack and then to see the game out.

"The fans were excellent, so it was nice to get the three points for them, especially coming this far up north.

"We needed a massive performance and a massive win today, especially with the run of games that we have got. I think this was a big result for us, so we will take all the positives and carry on to the next game.

"We can have a good evening tonight, get a good sleep and plenty of rest before Northampton as we are back on the road again on Saturday so hopefully we can take this into that game."
