Pardew Prepared

Posted on: Fri 27 Nov 2009

Alan Pardew says that the targets have not changed as Saints prepare for the F.A Cup second round tie at Northampton.

The manager wants to keep the winning mindset instilled in his squad as a handful of players look set to miss out at Sixfields.

"Every game is important to us," he stated. "I keep enforcing that to the players and the staff - we cannot afford to lose a game.

"Adam Lallana is struggling, David Connolly is struggling, Kelv is obviously out so Bart comes in, Mellis is also unavailable and Trotman is suspended.

"Therefore, players need to come in and prove that they can win games. I'm not talking about the Paul Wottons and Chris Perrys of this world, but some of the younger players who have come in and since they've been at this Club not won games. They've got to prove they can win games and have that winning mentality."

Saints go into the Cup match in good form away from home, but Pardew is only concentrating on the next game.

"Northampton have picked up. I know the manager that they have got down there, and he is a good guy, it will be a tough game because they are working very, very hard.

"You can always throw different stats at a football team, whichever you want to pick out, but we are just a decent team going about our business in a manner that we hope the fans will appreciate.

"I do think there are goals in the team," he added. "We just have players who are desperate to do well for the Club, and that includes goal scoring. I set up my teams to go and attack other teams, which does give you the occasional disaster defensively, but we are good enough to cope with that."

The Londoner also said that there was nothing to report on the loan deadline front which passed yesterday, despite the loss of Kelvin Davis to injury. Pardew is happy to give Bartosz Bialkowski a chance between the posts.

"At this level we are very lucky to have two keepers of such high quality. Hopefully he can come in and prove all the potential that we feel for him."
