Kelvin's Winning Return
Kelvin Davis capped a return to the team with a win over his former club in the third round of the F.A Cup.
The club captain has maintained many of his ties with Luton, the place where he started his career, but was happy to see a professional performance from his Saints side as they progressed in the competition.
"It's important when you play against lower league opposition whoever that may be, and when you're at home too it's also important to keep winning," he said. "We did that and kept a clean sheet as well so we're very happy.
"We rode our luck at times, but their keeper has made two very good saves which prevented us from maybe going in two or three goals up at half time, so when it's 1-0 you've always got to be cautious and not give away too much. They came at us in the second half, so it was good to keep a clean sheet and progress to the next round."
A shut out on his return between the posts after an eight game absence came as an added bonus for Davis, who explained that his time out of the side spurred him on to make his comeback at the right time.
"I felt that it was the right time for me to come back in, I felt strong and ready. I knew my groin was going to let me down so I'm pleased to be back.
"I'm very pleased to be back in the side and playing again as I've managed to overcome the injury. I've not been injured too often in my career so it's been quite strange to have been there watching games so it's been a nice time to reflect and take the best from a bad situation and now I'm looking to progress myself and the team.
"I was pleased with my performance today although there were some things I could have done better but on the whole a couple of saves and a clean sheet means we're happy."
Davis also had praise for Rickie Lambert's match-winning goal, a strike he has been on the receiving end of a few times in training.
"It was a fantastic free-kick, he works hard on his dead ball kicking and today it showed what he's been working hard on which ended up being the goal that won the game. I've stood in for a few of his before and he is a fantastic striker of the ball so every goal he scores he deserves."
The goalkeeper is now looking forward to another game in the F.A Cup but has to negotiate a meal with his Luton Town supporting in-laws first.
"My wife's parents are Luton fans but they're good people so I won't be rubbing their noses in it!
"There's something about the F.A Cup where you can't help but get the sort of performances where people raise their games, but it's exciting. We've won three games now so it's a bit of a cup run and we're in the fourth round with the possibility of a big side or a home tie that gives us a chance to progress again.
"You can only try and win football matches and to win at home again on the back of two defeats away, not only keeps our run at home going, but should stand us in good stead for the next few games."
