Lee Barnard was delighted to open his goal scoring account with both strikes in a 2-0 win at Norwich.

His first goal for Saints took a little longer than he expected to arrive, but he found his wait resembling London buses as two came a long in one game.

"When you come to a new club you want to get off the mark as quickly as possible. I've had a couple of chances in past games which haven't gone for me so to finally get off the mark is a big relief," the front man admitted.

"This is a big club and I was expected to score straight away, but that's good pressure, it's my job and I enjoy scoring goals, so hopefully there's many more to come.

"Norwich are top of the table, but I thought we bossed the game and didn't let them have a chance really so it was a good performance all round.

"The gaffer wanted me to play a bit deeper, so there was a lot of running for me but I'm pleased to do it because I'm a willing runner and I'm just glad to have got the goals and the win."

Barnard explained that the understanding between him and Rickie Lambert continues to grow on the field, which helped for his first goal as he followed up the Club's number seven's free-kick which crashed back off the crossbar into his path.

"It's developing well. These things always take time because we need to suss each other's games out, but I think we're doing that, we're working well and I'm sure that we will reap the rewards and get some goals.

"He's a free-kick specialist, but I'm going to follow up every time he strikes the ball. It was disappointing for him today but great for me to get my first goal.

"This is a good confidence booster for us," he added. "We know that it is going to be tough to reach the play-offs, but we've come here and got the result that we needed so hopefully we can carry on now.

"We knew that they were a good team, but we've got a great squad here and we're confident that we're going to win every game. We set out to win the game and I thought that we played very well."
