Alan Pardew says that the door is not shut on the players currently outside of the first eleven.
The Saints manager was able to field his strongest available side on Saturday for the first time since the transfer window closed, but the Londoner knows that he will require every member of his squad in forthcoming games.
"I need to pick my best eleven, but there are different games and different players," he explained to Saints Player. "Wayne Thomas isn't out the frame, Paul Wotton isn't out the frame, and there are three or four who could get into this team like Papa and Lee Holmes. It is all about form, and at the moment those guys have got the jerseys, and they will be looking to keep them."
Another player out of the picture at the moment through injury is striker David Connolly, and Pardew is hopeful of using the Irishman in the near future to ease the burden on top scorer Rickie Lambert during the hectic fixture schedule that awaits.
"Since Connolly has been out of the side, we haven't really mentioned it or moaned about it, but it has been a blow. He's a very good player, David Connolly, but that is why we brought Lee Barnard in and David looks like he is coming back to fitness so the weight off Rickie's shoulders is quite a lot really if they both come back.
"We targeted Lee because he can play that role of leading the line, whereas David can't, it's not really what he can do. So he does give us that opportunity to at some point get him to put his feet up. That is probably unlikely because I rate him very highly and now obviously we need to win every single game.
"If we can get ourselves into strong positions in games then we can afford to take him off and rest him, when David comes back that is, so that is an option to us."
His side travel to Wycombe Wanderers on Tuesday evening on the back of a fine win at the league leaders, Norwich City.
"We have had a few highlights, but it was a great performance and the players deserve a lot of credit for that. I thought the Ipswich game was a tough one to be honest, they were a better side than Norwich, but to go there and get a result like that and be in control for so long was great for the fans. They turned up after the disappointment of the Portsmouth match, so I thank them for that.
"Wycombe have only lost one in their last five, and won a couple of those. They have picked up lately and Gary Waddock is a good manager, it has taken him time to turn it round there, but he will turn it round and at the moment they are the best they have been all year. Norwich were looking for their twelfth home win in a row, so we have come across teams in form all season really, so it's nothing unusual to us so we hopefully we will be able to handle it.
"I think being at home with a good win under their belts will mean that they will be looking to beat us, but we are a good side and we are looking to finish these last seventeen games as the strongest team in the division. We have been a mid-table team for the first third, a play-off team for the middle third, and now we need to be a top two team for this final third and that will show good signs."
Pardew will however, be without at least one player from Saturday's squad for the trip to Adams Park.
"Morgan Schneiderlin is a doubt with a sore knee, and Dan Seaborne unfortunately looks like he has a knee problem. He's having it scanned today and we will have to see, but he is definitely out for this match."
