Dean Wilkins has refused to rule Saints out of gate-crashing the play-offs this season whilst it's still possible.
The Assistant Manager is not the only one amongst the Club's coaching staff to have been involved in some memorable late runs to promotion, and the former Brighton boss believes that his current employers still have a chance despite a sixteen point gap to make up on the top six.
"We know what we've got to do to get that play-off spot," he told Saints Player. "It might be a tall order, but we're going for every game to try and win. We've looked at stats from the past and in fact all the staff have been involved in run-ins where we've won eight out of nine, ten out of eleven, so we've all experienced it, it's just about convincing the players now that it's still there for us.
"If you look at our run-in as well, the eleven league games that we've got, we've already beaten eight of those sides and you could argue that we're possibly a more consistent, better team now, so we're very much in the race.
"The experience that we've got amongst us staff wise is up for us to relay to the players, it's important for supporters to know and to realise that we're by no means out of this and we'll be going for it game after game after game until it's mathematically impossible.
"We're very much in the hunt and out of all of our competitors if you like, we've only got to play one of the top six, whereas the others have all got at least three games against each other, so again it's another reason for us to be optimistic.
"We're capable of beating anybody and anybody big so we have to take that belief into the weekend at MK Dons. The results that we've had against them in the past this year count for nothing, we just have to make sure that we come off the pitch with the three points in the bag."
Wilkins admits that Tuesday evening's defeat to Swindon Town was a blow, but is relishing the opportunity to bounce back at a team Saints have defeated three times already this season, although that will count for nothing come kick off.
"There's enough experience in the squad from players who have had set backs and cup comebacks, but you just get on with your job basically. The players were grieving after Tuesday and were all disappointed after that, but we've come in this morning and that's forgotten about now, we focus on our next job which is MK away.
"I don't think they've changed too much this season, but we've done all our normal preparation as we do for every game being as thorough as we can be with the opposition, and just because we've played them three times already this season, there's no complacency there."
Saints almost outnumbered MK Dons fans on their last visit to stadium:mk, and the Londoner hopes they continue to back the team in the same way.
"The support that we've had has been phenomenal, the game against Leeds was incredible, the turn out the other night bearing in mind there was Champions League on the TV, was good and hopefully they'll turn up again in their numbers as they have done all season away from home. It gives us that vocal support which adds to the occasion and gives the players confidence.
"It's important that they keep getting behind us and believe in us, so that we can make it."
