More Glee For Lee
Lee Barnard's patience paid off as he produced a starring role in the late win at Yeovil.
The striker's last minute close range header earned Saints all three points, and rewarded the half time substitute's wait to get his place back in the side.
"It has been difficult for me personally lately, but the boys have been doing well and I've had to be patient on the bench," he explained. "Nobody likes to be on the bench, I'm no different, but I'm not one of those players who'll sulk, I just get on in training to prove to the manager that I should get back in the side scoring goals and helping the team.
"We knew how important getting the three points here was to keeping the pressure on the teams above us, and to get a last minute goal like that after going down to ten men was just fantastic.
"I remember the ball ran out wide and I had a little bit of ground to make up, but I saw the cross coming in and it was one of those perfect ones which I managed to get up pretty early for to plant my header into the far corner. It was a big relief, the lads were terrific today and deserved all three points, plus it was nice to score in the last minute."
The maximum return from Huish Park could prove significant at the season's end, but it will mean equally as little if Saints don't repeat the outcome in their four reaming fixtures with a play-off spots still up for grabs.
"We know what we've got to do which is to win all of our games, so we're concentrating on ourselves and taking it each game as it comes, which hopefully will see us sneak into the play-offs at the end of the season.
"Every game is winnable but in this division you can't take anything for granted because anyone can beat anyone on their day, so we need to be at it and we're determined to get three points in every game.
"We feel that we should be in there though, and we will do our best to try and sneak in."
The only disappointment in the changing room after the game centered on Morgan Schneiderlin, who apologised for his actions that led to his sending off, but Barnard had sympathy for his teammate.
"Morgan is disappointed because he feels that he has let the boys down, but it's one of those things, we're just so passionate to do well and maybe he lost his head for a little bit. It was tough going down to ten men but we got the result and three points which is the main thing."
