Connolly Raring To Go
David Connolly has warned League One defences that he is back to full fitness for the crucial remaining fixtures.
The striker has conceded that he may not play every minute of every game, but he is ready to play his part in Saints' promotion push if called upon.
"I've been fit for a while now so I'm raring to go," he confirmed on Saints Player. "It's down to the manager to decide on formation, tactics and how he decides to play, but I'm ready and I'm there if needed.
"There's nothing worse than having someone who is bitter on the sidelines so I'm definitely not one of those I just want the team to do well. Obviously I'd like to play but the lads have been doing well so I can't have too many complaints if we're scoring goals.
"The lads have done really well when they've been under a lot of pressure to win recently. To win at home where teams come to defend and to then go away to a team or to a stadium which is difficult to go to because they're scrapping for points or whatever, shows that the lads have done really well lately. It's a sign of a team going in the right direction.
"I want the lads to keep winning obviously, and it's more important to be part of a winning squad than a winning team. I've been in teams before where I've scored a load of goals and finished eighth and that's no good at the end of the day."
Saints entertain Oldham on Tuesday evening and Connolly says that it is the type of game that proves whether or not you deserve to think about promotion.
"They'll be like a few teams in this division who aren't really going for anything as such apart from maybe pride so the onus will be on us and sometimes they can be tricky ones like we saw on Saturday.
"To win things that's what you've got to do, win Saturday, Tuesday, Saturday and Tuesday again. You have to dig in and all the players need to rest up, use their energy then use it in games, you're not going to go up by winning Saturday and then not on Tuesday, you have to win and this is what it's all about.
"We'll be where we will be after tomorrow night all we can do is keep trying to get results and see where it takes us, but this is the time of season where it's great to still be involved.
"If we'd been a bit more consistent all season then we might not have put ourselves under this sort of pressure, but all we can do is keeping doing what we're doing now which has seen us pick up back-to-back wins."
