Wotton Happy To Be Involved
Paul Wotton may not have played in every game this year but his influence in the changing room remains key.
The vastly experienced central midfielder has made Southampton his home, taking the Club to his heart, something which has been made easier through his more regular involvement both on and off the pitch this season.
He has watched on patiently whilst Dean Hammond and Morgan Schneiderlin have formed a blossoming partnership in midfield, but Wotton has praised the coaching staff for keeping him on his toes despite not getting a regular run in the side.
"I accept that today's game is not one to 11 any more. It's a 13 to 14 man game and I'm happy that the manager has kept me involved for most of the season," he tells tonight's matchday programme.
"There are guys out there in Morgan Schneiderlin and Dean Hammond who are doing a terrific job in midfield. They deserve to be there. For my own part, I just love the club and I love coming into work every day. So you won't hear too many complaints from me."
The former Plymouth Argyle stalwart could benefit from Frenchman, Schneiderlin's four game suspension by filling in for the youngster tonight, just as he did so admirably at Wembley in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy final.
"It was fortunate for me and unfortunate for Morgan, but I loved every minute of it. I've had a long career but this was one of the highlights. What made it even more enjoyable was that we played so well and won in style. Playing in front of a 75,000 crowd, most of them from Southampton, was just fantastic. A day I'll never forget."
