Jon Has Plenty To Play For
Jon Otsemobor knows that there is still plenty to play for this season, not just for the team, but for his own future too.
The Liverpudlian full back joins a handful of other Saints players who are out of contract in the summer, and the former Norwich defender is keen to play his way into the gaffer's plans for next season.
"There's a lot of players out of contract, obviously I'm included in that, but we're all in the same boat, so at the end of the season we'll sit down with the manager and his decision will be final," he explained on Saints Player.
"I think the manager knows that I'd like to stay and if he wants to keep me great, but if not then I'll be playing my football elsewhere.
"It is kind of unsettling, because you would rather know, but the manager has got some difficult decisions to make and you have to respect that. I'm sure if you asked him he probably doesn't know exactly what he wants to do yet, so you have to sit tight and respect that."
The 27 year-old has enjoyed his stint on the south coast and feels that he has improved as a player since his January move, which has been helped by the ambition of the playing and coaching staff around him.
"I feel I've been consistent in most of my games which in my early years I struggled to find that consistency, but since I've come here and the games that I've played in, I feel I've given a good account of myself and I understand how the lads in front of me want to play. As a team I understand how we want to play so I'm enjoying that.
"We had a meeting prior to the last game where the manager explained that if we win the last three games of the season, we would have had a second placed finish without the minus ten points, so as we can't make the play-offs now it gives the lads an incentive going into games knowing that we can get something personal out of it.
"There's disappointment because we'd worked so hard up until that point, training was fantastic, it's still good now but we were so desperate to make the play-offs. I know I wasn't here from the start, but we'd worked so hard as a group so the lads are disappointed as a group, but it's part of the game you have your highs and you have your lows, we've sort of forgotten about it now and we just want to concentrate on the next two games."
Saints travel to Gillingham for their final away fixture of the campaign on Saturday with a competitive encounter on the cards as the Gills fight to stay in the division.
"They're going to be up for it. They're going to have a full house because it's a final for them and they need the points, but I feel that will suit us, the tough games and open kind of games we seem to do well in.
"It's a small, tight stadium and no doubt it will be a full house so it will be another good game to play in."
