Aaron Targets More Cup Glory

Posted on: Sun 29 Jan 2012

Aaron Martin is relishing the chance to feature in the FA Cup again this weekend.

The centre back is currently enjoying his longest run of games in the first team, and hopes that his prolonged spell will continue by getting a win under the team's belt on Saturday at Millwall.

"We're looking forward to it as we can't wait to get back to winning ways," he told saintsfc.co.uk

"We need to get our game back and play well again by making sure that we do everything right to win.

"It is such a good competition, and everyone wants to play in it so it would be nice to get another win in this cup.

"It's still going to be a difficult game. You can never say that it's going to be an easier game because this competition has shown that, but we just have to play like we can to get a win."

The former Eastleigh man has started each of the last five competitive games, and is hoping that he gets another chance to show the manager what he can do in the expected absence of fellow centre back Jos Hooiveld.

"It gives the gaffer an opportunity to play some of the fringe players, to make sure that everyone gets a game, but it's still such a good competition that everyone wants to play in it anyway so it would be great to get another win just to get another game out of it.

"I know I've just got to keep playing as well as I can so scoring another goal and keeping a clean sheet will be what the gaffer is looking for from me, and that's what I'm targeting on Saturday.

"I've not played there before I don't think, but it'll be nice to go there and I know exactly what to expect."

Martin added his first impressions of new signing Tadanari Lee, fresh from the Japanese striker's opening training session with the squad.

"Lee has trained with us and he looks a very good player, he looks sharp, he's good on the ball and it'll be exciting to actually see him playing.

"He'll play off someone like Lambert no problem. He's very quick so any knock downs he'll be on straightaway so we're looking forward to seeing him play."

And with Jason Puncheon also back in the fold, Aaron explained that Saints are raring to go for this weekend's cup tie.

"He's such a good player, and it'll be great to have him back because he can do a good job for us so it'll be nice to see him involved as well.

"He brings so much. He's creative, he works hard and he's got goals in his locker so it'll be nice to have him back just for that something extra.

"We've got such a good group here that he was always going to be welcomed back and I should think that he'll slot straight back in anyway, and for him, as long as he does what he knows he can then there will be no problems whatsoever."
