SFC Debut: Crystal Palace (H) 25th January 2006
A Polish international goalkeeper signed for a nominal fee from Górnik Zabrze. At 6' 4" and weighing 13 stone, the promising youngster caught the eye of former boss George Burley while on trial with Hearts.
Bialkowski joined Gornik in 2002 and made his Polish League debut in October 2004 and made seven appearances for them before switching to Southampton where he quickly broke into the first-team at just 18.
He kept a clean sheet on his debut at home to Crystal Palace in January 2006 and had four shut-outs in his first six games before damaging cruciate ligaments in an FA Cup fifth round tie at Newcastle, an injury which put him out until September of that year.
He played the final eight league games plus the first leg of the play-off semi-final in the 2006/07 campaign and began the 2007-08 season still in the side but dropped back to the bench when Kelvin Davis regained fitness. He then had to sit out the final three months of the season after damaging a thumb which needed surgery.
In 2008/09 he appeared in all three rounds of the Carling Cup that Saints participated in but he was unable to dislodge Kelvin Davis in the Championship which prompted a loan spell at divisional rivals Ipswich Town towards the end of the campaign.
It was a familair tale in the following season as Davis held on to the number one jersey, but Bartosz was given a run of games between November and January following an injury to the Club captain. He made several vital contributions to the team in this time including some crucial saves in a penalty shoot out win over Norwich in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy en route to the Final.
During the summer of 2010, Bialkowski provided the team with a huge boost on the eve of the 2010/11 campaign by penning a new two year deal which could automatically be extended by a further two seasons, during which time he will continue to push Kelvin Davis for the no.1 shirt.
