Better known as 'Fish' by his team mates, Mills is one of four footballing brothers, three of whom have been on Southampton's Academy books.
Although originally utilised in midfield, he has played a lot of his early career as a full-back.
A clever player with a good left foot, Mills has also been part of the England Youth setup for several years, making appearances at both Under 17 and Under 18 level. Mills was been regularly involved with the First Team during pre-season in 2008/09 which led to him making a handful of appearances in the First Team under Jan Poortvliet before he was then loaned out to Scunthorpe United who were pushing for promotion from League One.
Fish made an impact at Glanford Park but ultimately missed out on the play-offs with the Iron who secured their route back into the Championship with a win at Wembley in May 2009 with Mills watching on from the stands.
He signed a new three year deal at the start of the 2009-10 campaign having enhanced his versatility as an attacking midfielder in pre-season.
