Murty wrapped up a permanent switch to St. Mary's in early August 2009 after a successful trial at the club during pre-season.
The Scottish international defender was released by Reading at the end of the 2008/09 season, where he had been club captain and famously led the Berkshire side into the Premier League via a record breaking promotion charge in the 2005/06 campaign.
He signed a one year deal at St. Mary's following the arrival of manager Alan Pardew, whom he worked with at the Madejski Stadium earlier in his career.
