Saints debut: Burnley (H) – 11th February 2012
Former clubs: Sheffield United, Rushden & Diamonds (loan), Scunthorpe United, Doncaster Rovers, Nottingham Forest (loan)

Saints completed the signing of striker Sharp from Doncaster Rovers in the January 2012 transfer window.

The highly-sought-after and proven Championship forward joined shortly before his 26th birthday, and was reunited with his former manager Nigel Adkins five years on from his prolific scoring record that promoted Scunthorpe United out of League 1. He scored over 50 goals in two seasons at Glanford Park but upon promotion the Yorkshireman was enticed to Sheffield United in 2007.

After being forced down the pecking order at Bramall Lane, he made the move to Doncaster Rovers, where Sharp emphatically got back on the goal trail. He notched 16 goals in 31 appearances for Rovers in the 2010/11 season and, in the run up to his move to St Mary's, he scored ten times in 20 games including the winner against Saints in a 1-0 success at the Keepmoat Stadium.

Billy signed a three-and-a-half-year deal for an undisclosed fee and went on to find the net nine times during his first half-season with the Saints, with vital goals in wins over Peterborough and Coventry helping to secure promotion to the Premier League.

He was then loaned out to Championship outfit Nottingham Forest on transfer deadline day in August 2012, scoring 11 goals in 40 appearances during his time at the City Ground. The following season saw him spend temporary spells with Reading and old club Doncaster Rovers.
